The Merge Duplicates feature in Pipedrive identifies potential duplicate entries in your contacts to help minimise lost or mismanaged information within your account. This function uses the same rules as Pipedrive's import tool to determine what items may be duplicates.
Identifying Duplicate Person Contacts
For person contacts, Pipedrive checks if your contacts have the same name (e.g., Tom Smith) and one of the following criteria:
- The same phone number
- The same email address
- Are part of the same organisation
For example, if you have two Tom Smiths listed as working for ABC Corporation, Pipedrive may flag them as potential duplicates.
Identifying Duplicate Organisation Contacts
For organisation contacts, Pipedrive checks if your organisations have the same name (e.g., ABC Corporation) and the same address. This distinction is important because an organisation can have multiple branches, offices, or franchises.
For instance, two ABC Corporation listings—one in California and one in London—should not be flagged as duplicates because they are in different locations.
By using these criteria, Pipedrive ensures that duplicates are accurately identified, helping maintain a clean and effective database.
